WEF Global IT Report 2007-2008 highlights Egypt’s Progress in ICT Readiness

Sharm El Sheikh, 20 May 2008

The Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008 issued by the World Economic Forum in cooperation with INSEAD international business school underlined the substantial progress Egypt is making in ICT readiness in comparison to neighboring Middle Eastern and North African countries over the last six years.

The report findings ranked Egypt as the most competitive in prices of telecom services in the region and worldwide, highlighting costs of mobile communications.

INSEAD Dean of External Relations and the Roland Berger Chaired Professor in Business and Technology Soumitra Dutta made the announcements during the World Economic Forum on the Middle East in Sharm El Sheikh yesterday.

The report stated that Egypt's improved ranking is due to Government prioritization of the ICT sector, emphasizing the role of ICT for national development both as a key infrastructure and as a promising sector.

Published for the seventh consecutive year with record coverage of 127 economies worldwide, the Global Information Technology Report has become the world’s most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.

The World Economic Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
