    Dr. Kamel Signs Cooperation Agreement with SAP AG on Public Sector Automation

    Cairo, 22 November 2007

    Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel and SAP AG Deputy CEO Lo Apotheker signed today a cooperation agreement in the presence of Minister of State for Administrative Development Dr. Ahmed Darwish and that of Social Solidarity Dr. Ali Moselhi.  
    Based on the agreement, the German SAP will provide the Egyptian ministries, organizations and authorities with business software applications as part of the State's policy of automating the sector as a whole. The process will start with the Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO).
    Dr. Kamel said the agreement, to be implemented over four years starting 2008, will highly contribute to the development of the work system at the ministries and public authorities.
    The new applications are likely to complement those supplied by other international companies through previous deals.
    ENPO Chairman Eng. Alaa Fahmy said this was the first agreement between Egypt Post and SAP AG, which had supplied more than 32 post offices worldwide with its applications.
    The SAP applications, Eng. Fahmy added, will speed up the implementation of postal and financial services upgrade at 3600 offices nationwide.
    Meanwhile, the agreement includes the establishment of a training and customer support center for preparing calibers who are capable of building and upgrading the software applications required for the public institutions.  This will help create a regional center that can export expertise in the integrated systems field as well as offering job opportunities.
    The agreement, according to Dr. Kamel, will help enrich Egypt's technology expertise as well as provide new job opportunities in the field. SAP AG pledged to offer 500 job opportunities within three years.
