    NTRA allows Telecom Egypt to Construct and Operates Telecom Services

    Cairo, 18 January 2006

    National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority signed license agreement with Telecom Egypt witnessed by Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, to construct, operate and manage telecom services. This new agreement was held between Eng. Alaa Fahmyy, Chairman of NTRA and Eng. Akeel Beshier, Chairman of Telecom Egypt.

    Eng. Alaa Fahmy has illustrated that such a license is considered a unique one on the international level as it includes constructing, operating, and managing the telecom infrastructure of Egypt and it gives the right to providing all telecom services except mobiles. The license also includes permission to import wireless equipment and frequencies necessary for the CDMA and TECT systems.

    Fahmy highlighted that preparing for such a license has taken years in order to be coherent with the history of telecom in Egypt. The license is considered an important sign in the Egyptian economy where as it will allow for different competition in the Egyptian market, providing devices for customer protection and insuring publicity of information, including social aspects in providing telecom services which has economic and social benefits to the country.
