Egyptís SECC Signs on as US-based SEI Strategic Partner for MENA

    Cairo, 1 February 2006

US-based Software Engineering Institute (SEI) has agreed to enlist Egyptís Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC) - an entity within the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Ė as a strategic partner in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The SEI has also licensed the SECC to provide consulting and evaluation services to help improve quality in the international software industry with the exception of the United States.

This partnership bolsters the SECCís constant support from the Minster of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), which has improved the Centerís professional abilities, awarding it international recognition in a period of no more than four years.

By way of this newly acquired license, the SECC will provide consulting and evaluation services to Egyptian software companies at a reduced and affordable cost, far lower than the estimated $100,000 for a foreign consultations. The license allows the SECC to offer training and technical evaluation to information technology (IT) companies in Egypt and abroad, using Egyptian experts who are trained and licensed on CMMI technology.

This international recognition of the SECCís capacities bows to its nation-wide efforts since its establishment in 2002. The SECC has participated in evaluating Egyptian software companiesí technical standards along with international certified experts as well as these companiesí competitive edge in the international markets.

The SECC will provide its services to companies in the Arab region and Africa as well as the rest of the world which will increase its capacity as an international knowledge bank that will offer this service in line with the state policy to increase the export of IT services which will help increase national income.

In cooperation with USAIDís ICT Program, the SECC had prepared a complete file including all SECC activities, technically trained personnel, strategic plan, and achievements since establishment which was presented to the SEI in October 2005. The file was studied and evaluated according the SEI standards.
