    ICT Minister Opens Community Centers in South Sinai to Serve PwDs, Empower Women

    South Sinai, 16 September 2017

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady and the Governor of South Sinai Khaled Fouda opened, today, a number of community centers to serve People with Disabilities (PwDs) and empower women in South Sinai Governorate, as part of the first phase of the Integrated Inclusive Community Centers project.

    ElKady inaugurated the integrated inclusive community center in Sharm El Sheikh Youth Center, PwDs service center and a women empowerment center in Al-Tur. The inauguration of these centers is within the framework of implementing the strategy of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to promote the ICT sectorís social responsibility in cooperation with the governorates of the Republic.

    The ICT Ministerís Advisor for Social Responsibility and Services Abeer Shakweer said that this project aims at adapting the ICT tools to serve the population of the poor and marginalized areas. The support provided to these centers includes supplying them with the necessary hardware and software to increase work efficiency in these centers. These centers offer many training programs such as training on computer and mobile maintenance, basic computer, human development, modern management methods as well as literacy courses. She also added that the second phase of the project will be launched soon, including seven integrated inclusive community centers and five telemedicine units.

    MCIT cooperates with many companies in the sector in the context of its social responsibility to provide several IT services, such as Internet services, and various training courses to raise the capabilities of young people using ICTs and to enable them to keep pace with the development of the labor market and get distinctive job opportunities.
