    Ministerial Mission to US

    A top Egyptian ministerial delegation, presided by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady, headed to the United States on an official mission—during March 13-23— with the aims of promoting investments in the ICT sector, and developing Egypt-US strategic partnerships in advanced industries and technologies.

    The mission agenda encompassed holding a number of meetings with executive officials of global multinationals in the technology development and information systems including among others, Oracle, SAP, General Electric, Dell, Cisco, HP, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics, Honeywell and Infor.

    In his meeting with Cisco Executive Chairman John Chambers, ElKady discussed a number of topics including future partnerships and business. The ICT Minister also met with Cisco executive working group, headed by Cisco Government Affairs Senior Director Pastora Valero. The meeting featured IoT integrated platforms through which control and operations centers can benefit to track and manage the infrastructure.

    ElKady also met with Powell Lodiasena the chairman of AT Kearney— a global consultations company—where the role of indicators issued by international institutions was highlighted.

    In the second day, the ICT Minister met with Oracle General Manager and Senior Vice President Gary Miller and other executive officials, discussing establishing a center of excellence for Oracle at one of the new technology parks.

    The ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation also met with SAP Managing Director Sam Yen, where they discussed the establishment of a data center to promote national projects implemented by the various economic sectors.

    Additionally, ElKady, and his accompanying delegation, met with Kevin Hutchins, the Senior Vice President of Juniper Networks, a pioneer in secure network solutions, where they discussed cooperation in the fields of training, cybersecurity certification and opportunities for joint manufacturing in Egypt.

    In his meeting with Synopsys Executive Vice President and General Manager Joachim Kunkel, the ICT Minister agreed with Synopsys officials on an executive action plan that entails the establishment of a training lab. The lab is to develop local technological calibers, in response to the growing industry needs of using tools and measurements in electronics designing areas.

    Moreover, the ICT Minister met with Dell EMC senior officials. A new collaboration was agreed between the two parties, where the Future Scientists presidential program is to be incorporated in Dell EMC future pioneer initiative.
    Meeting with Teleperformance CEO Brian Johnson, ElKady discussed the company’s strategy to expand its business in Egypt, particularly in terms of intercontinental services. Both parties agreed that Teleperformance is to employ 2000 young people before the end of the year, bringing the number of the company's workforce to 10,000 by 2020.

    ElKady, and his accompanying delegation, visited Orange at Silicon Valley, where he toured Orange Fab Lab, an incubator and accelerator that serves the community and the environment of Silicon Valley start-ups.  Meeting with HP Inc., ElKady discussed strengthening cooperation in intelligent learning development. Cooperation entails developing a strategy and an integrated system of education and smart learning in Egypt, including manufacturing tablets, particularly for educational purposes.

    Furthermore, ElKady met with General Electric Digital (GE) General Manager and Chief Commercial Officer - Americas, Mike Matlock and GE President and CEO for North East Africa Ayman Khattab, where they agreed to exchange expertise and provide training for Egyptian calibers in several areas, including the construction and development of applications and systems related to the optimal use of energy, and the creation of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) and a lab for the company in Egypt in the field of digital industries that serve all areas of economic development.

    Besides, ElKady held a meeting with Walden C. Rhines, the Chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics— one of the leading electronic designing companies— where they discussed promoting the company's activity in Egypt through participation in the presidential initiative of training and qualifying technological calibers, aimed at raising the competencies of youth to find opportunities at internationally approved software companies.

    The ICT Minister met with Honeywell Vice President and General Manager, Smart Energy Americas - Electricity and Water Gary Bennett, where they agreed to sign a cooperation protocol in Cairo in the coming weeks. The cooperation protocol entails the manufacturing of smart meters in Egypt to be disseminated in the new Administrative Capital, and a center for developing software and smart solutions, in addition to establishing a training center in one of the technology parks in Egypt.
    ElKady also held a meeting with Visa International President Ryan McInerney, where they discussed the company’s expertise in financial inclusion. Moreover, ElKady paid a visit to the innovation center at Visa headquarters, where he learnt about the latest products of the company's digital payments and global trends that contribute to achieving financial inclusion.
    The ICT Minister also met with Andrew Zimmerman, the President of Sutherland Digital—a world leading company in exporting technological services. The company is to receive a number of Egyptian entrepreneurs, developers and designers at its headquarters in Silicon Valley where it will provide them with training on the latest methods of digital transformation for institutions, big data analysis and outsourcing services.

    ElKady and his accompanying delegation met with the senior officials of MasterCard, the leading e-payment and financial inclusion solutions provider based in New York, where they discussed improving financial inclusion services.

    Moreover, the ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation met with Jon H. Larson President of Ocean County College in New Jersey, where they agreed to sign a cooperation protocol with the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), aiming to build strategic relations and promote future cooperation, including the establishment of a center for creativity in New Assiut Technology Park, which will be connected to Assiut University.

    The ICT Minister also met with a number of officials from Enfor, a leading provider of smart technology solutions for the business sector. During the meeting, Enfor expressed its interest in investing in Egypt and cooperating with startups specialized in providing software services.
