    Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2010

    Last updated: 14 September 2010

Egypt participated in the fifth IGF meeting held in Lithuania during the period from 14th to 17th September, by an official delegation representing the Egyptian side from Ministry of Communications and Information Technology leaders, under the overall theme 'IGF 2010 – developing the future together'.

This theme reflects the open and inclusive nature of the IGF with its multilateral, multi-stakeholder, democratic and transparent approach to discussions of Internet-related public policy issues.

These include issues that involve the geolocation of hosting platforms, the global reach of social networks and the linkages between access to knowledge and security solutions both in terms of hardware and software. In the access to content discussion, the focus is on the side effect of the tools and methods used to block content.

The Vilnius meeting helped articulate a view of how we can use the Internet for the benefit of all humankind, and how we can further address the risks and challenges ahead.

Internet governance should not be seen as an end in itself, but as a means of achieving development for all as expressed in internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals.
