    CBI: Egypt's IT Sector Witnesses Outstanding Progress in a Short Time

    Egyptian IT sector has witnessed an outstanding growth in quite a short time, according to Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries - CBI.

    CBI organized a seminar prior to the CeBIT Flat World Forum held March 3rd, describing Egypt as a role model in IT development.

    Egypt, CBI noted, has been committed to a reliable promotional strategy when addressing the world.

    CBI praised the strategy adopted by Egypt. The strategy is based on the country's competitive advantages as well as well-defined programs to build the potentials of Egyptian companies and graduates.

    The CBI representative said that the center usually refers to Egypt as an example of the possibility of boosting the IT sector in a short time span. This target could be archived by following a lucid plan and a strategy that takes into consideration global variables, especially throughout the World Financial Crisis.

    Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) CEO Dr. Hazem Abdelazim presented during the forum ITIDA's role in developing the sector through a variety of programs and initiatives in a bid to attract international companies to invest in Egypt. By doing that ITIDA also aims to boost the competitiveness of Egyptian IT companies and enhance their exports.    

    Following the seminar, the Egyptian session was commenced by Dr. Andreas Gruchow, Member of the Board of Deutsche Messe AG, CeBIT organizer, welcoming the Egyptian delegation.      
    Dr. Gruchow commended the obvious progress Egypt has achieved in the industry of IT services. He pointed out that international reports mentioned the progress Egypt had achieved, rating the country as the first in the EMEA region.

    For his part, Dr. Abdelazim gave a presentation on the agency's activities and programs that enabled Egyptian companies to acquire international certifications. ITIDA also helped raise the performance, productivity and export capabilities of Egyptian companies.

    Dr. Abdelazim confirmed that Egypt is committed to provide the sector with the required calibers who had received professional programs at Egyptian universities. These programs have been carried out cooperatively among the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of Higher Education Scientific Research.

    Dr. Abdelazim pointed out that professional human resources are the pillars of the sector on the long run.

    The competitive factors of Egypt, mainly multilingualism, competitive cost, government's support and geographical location can hardly be found in other locations, he added.

    Such benefits enabled the Egyptian sector to realize quantum leaps in a limited time, a fact attracted several analysts and specialized consulting firms.

    Afterwards, Chairman of IT Synergy, operating in Egypt, Mr. Vincenzo Puliatti, gave another presentation on his company and its areas of expertise. He presented how the company adopts the principle of innovation and creativity depending on the proficiency of the Egyptian staff to export its products to the whole world.

    Mr. Puliatti noted that it was not a random choice to establish the company in Egypt. He added that he made up his mind after he had worked in many other countries.

    Mr. René Gawron, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the German SQS Group, the leading provider of software testing and quality management services in Europe, referred to the reasons why his company decided to invest in Egypt.

    Mr. Gawron said that the company found no difficulty in hiring 100 Egyptian professional engineers who speak German to serve its clients in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

    He added that these Egyptian engineers prove the outstanding skills of Egyptian calibers that cannot be easily found in other countries.

    Meanwhile, a number of prominent exhibitors, international companies' representatives, visitors and delegations of participating countries are expected to attend the Egyptian Night today. The event is an opportunity for opening communication channels and networking with possible clients and decision makers.
