    CULTNAT and Nile University Sign a Cooperation Agreement

    Center for Documentation of Cultural and National Heritage (CULTNAT) and Nile University (NU) signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday, 14 July 2009.

    The agreement puts into force a decision by the Supreme Council of Universities, stressing the importance of collaboration between research centers and universities to boost research and education in Egypt.

    CULTNAT Director Dr. Fathi Saleh and Acting NU President Dr. Tarek Khalil signed the agreement. The two signatories pointed out that the agreement stipulates a number of key points.

    CULTNAT will prepare, plan and carry out educational programs in fields conforming to the NU programs. The center will also hold lectures and seminars to introduce students to cultural and natural heritage. In addition, CULTNAT and NU will cooperate in documenting such heritage.

    Moreover, the two entities will organize workshops on research and development as well as provide consultations that aim at serving the community.

    The agreement also entails cooperation in setting up graduate programs at NU in addition to the joint supervision of master degree theses and PhD dissertations.

    About CULTNAT
    The Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT) was established in January 2000 as a project operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). In 2003, CULTNAT become an affiliate of MCIT and Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The center runs an array of projects and programs for the documentation of both the tangible and intangible aspects of Egypt's cultural and natural heritage, including archeology, architecture, manuscripts, music, folklore, caricatures, plastic arts and natural resources.

    Established in 2006, Nile University is a not-for-profit institution of higher education primarily dedicated to excellence in technology-related fields with focus on business development and applied research. It is the first university in Egypt and the region to specialize in postgraduate education and research. The university is a partnership between civil society (Egyptian Foundation for Technology Education and Development EFTED), the government (Ministry of Communications and Information Technology MCIT) and the ICT industry.
