It will further present an opportunity to demonstrate the results gathered by the MAP-IT project over the past two years.

The conference will bring together experts in ICT from research and industry. It will also include workshops for the eight Mediterranean partner countries within the FP7.

ITIDA is a major partner of MAP-IT project, which is funded by the European Union as part of the EU's Seventh Framework Program.

Map-IT project aims at identifying and categorizing companies and organizations in Egypt operating in R&D projects related to ICT and facilitating all online information about these companies. This will help create a communication mechanism among companies seeking partnerships in the EU's major R&D programs.

Representatives from the countries participating in the project will attend the conference including Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Morocco and Syria in addition to European partners from Italy and France.

ITIDA CEO Dr. Hazem Abdelazim is expected to inaugurate the conference.

Map-IT blog was created to act as a communication channel covering Mediterranean ICT topics and stimulating online dialogue on all levels.

A CD entitled: "Egypt on R&D and Innovation" was developed encompassing a database of the companies participating in the project, research centers, Masters Theses, PhD dissertations and papers published during the past five years that are linked to research fields defined by the EU.

Additionally, ITDIA sponsored the participation of 14 ICT companies in ICT 2008 held in Leon, France in November 2008 under the organization of the EU.

During the conference, the research programs of 2009-2010 were announced generating several opportunities as well as a research plan for the next two years. The plan is composed of a number of points including the invitation of EU countries.

MAP-IT project resulted in the formulation of a think tank of a group of experts from mega, small and medium sized companies and research institutes like Orange, Microsoft, IBM, Research and Development (RDI), Alexandria Bibliotheca, Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), Information Technology Institute (ITI), National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA), Cairo University, Nile University and the American University in Cairo.

The think tank’s mandate is to analyze the project's output, figure out the points of strengths and weakness, opportunities and threats to be able to propose effective strategies to develop companies' potential in R&D and innovation.

ITIDA also organized two workshops for the experts’ think tank in May and November 2008.
