ITIDA Forms an R&D Committee on IT

    Date published: 17 July 2008

Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) formed a workforce of experts in IT and its applications, e-libraries, e-content and representatives of major companies to identify the fields of technical research and development and put them into force, conforming to the agency's role in the European Union funded Map-IT project.
The CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)Dr. Hazem Abdelazim said the committee includes Alexandria Bibliotheca, Nile University, CULTNAT, Cairo University, Ain Shams University, American University in Cairo (AUC), IBM, Microsoft, Orange, Mentor Graphics and other distinguished companies in R&D.
Dr. Abdel-Azim added that the upcoming period will witness intensive activities by the committee. The committee, he said, will conduct several meetings and workshops with Egyptian companies to get to know their points of views and the international trends as well as analyze the data derived of the Map-IT Project.
Map-IT Project, according to the ITIDA Executive President, encompasses many cooperation opportunities with the European Union in R&D as the project carries out knowledge-mapping activities aimed at identifying and monitoring Mediterranean R&D resources and facilitating EuroMed partnersí access to knowledge and resources covering information society-related skills, technology and competencies in the non-EU Mediterranean area.
ITIDA Deputy Executive President Dr. Sherif Hashim pointed out that the committee held a preliminary workshop that reflected the participantsí keenness to listen to the companies' views in R&D and understand their needs. He added that an expanded workshop will be held this month to discover the fields, set recommendations and work on them.
ITIDA had earlier supported the participation of Egyptian companies in the European Commission's Digital Libraries and Technology-Enhanced Learning: Call 3 Information Days held in December 2007 in Luxembourg.
Forming the R&D Committee goes in line with the awareness raising campaigns of the European Unionís Seventh Framework Program for research and technology development (FP7) that ITIDA adopts.
Last February, ITIDA organized an Information Day in the presence of dozens of IT companies to further introduce them to the FP7 and boost dialogue among the concerned parties.
