SECC to Hold a Forum on New Services for 2010

    Date published: 13 March 2010

Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC) will organize Monday, 15 March 2010 a forum to introduce current and future services for this year. A group of experts from SECC will present and illustrate the centerís services.

Current facilities include CMMI for Development (CMMI-DEV), which is a major pillar in boosting the Egyptian software industry.

SECCís team, specialized in the Embedded Software industry, carries out internal projects and supports local companies through training, consultations and exchange of projects.

The center offers consultations to small and medium-sized companies through the Software Process Implementation Guide (SPIG). By doing so, SECC helps companies follow guidelines for developing the process of designing software programs and realize high quality standards.

Moreover, SECC offers services for building the potentials of Personal Software Process (PSP) and Team Software Process (TSP).

New SECC offerings encompass CMMI for Services (CMMI-SVC) recently announced by the US. CMMI-SVC is a guide to help service provider organizations reduce costs and improve quality and predictability of schedules.

SECC aims to help Egyptian companies acquire CMMI-SVC through providing them training, consultations and SCAMPI Formal Appraisal services.

SECC also facilitates software testing services. Such services transfer and apply state-of-the-art technologies and international expertise in this domain.

SECC helps companies build specialized testing units in addition to a variety of testing processes that include other quality assurance aspects.

Services currently involve functional tests and those related to performance and reliability. They additionally include procedural development, work cycles and the automation of testing processes.

SECC seeks to offer other services in the near future like application protection and th establishment of testing centers that act as expansions to the center.

Software Reuse is one of the new activities of the center. It has to do with building the organizationís capability to maximize its productive capacity and reduce production costs. Such goals can be achieved through defying the chances of software reuses and facilitating the required organizational and administrative infrastructure.

SECC provides technical consultations and the necessary technologies to prepare and train institutions on the effective and practical methodologies of software reuse.

In addition, the center supports the ITILģ model. ITIL is the most consistent and comprehensive documentation of the best practice for IT Service Management.

The center currently applies the Six Sigma strategy via cooperating with international entities specialized in the field to transfer their expertise and knowledge to the SCEE and the Egyptian Information Society.

Six Sigma is a business management strategy originally developed by Motorola, USA in 1981. Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes.

It uses a set of quality management methods, including statistical techniques, creating a special infrastructure of people within the organization. Six Sigma helps software companies raise their standards to CMMI level 5.

Besides the above services, the network of Egypt-SPIN is an initiatives launched by the center in December 2002. Egypt-SPIN was accredited by the US Software Engineering Institute (SEI). It aims to interact with the entities proficient in this domain. It is an influential tool for exchanging views and data among those interested in the field.

SCEE releases through this network a quarterly newsletter that comprises different issues related to training and news on software development.

The network is edited by a number of experts in the field. The network is open for all individuals who are interested in raising the standard of software development. SPIN network members meet annually at SEPG Conference Series.

SECC was established in June 2001 by Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). In 2005, the center became an affiliate of Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
