XMG Report: Egypt Outsourcing Services Industry Booming

    Date published: 13 August 2008

XMG, a global information and communications technology (ICT) research and advisory firm, underlined the substantial progress Egypt is making in the outsourcing services industry in comparison to European, Middle Eastern and African countries.

XMG report stated that Egypt is increasingly becoming a key player at the global outsourcing industry which, according to report, is expanding globally to reach $297 Billion and expected to reach $450 Billion by 2010.

Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology pointed out that fostering Egypt's position on the global IT exports map and capitalizing on the local ICT sector to boost socioeconomic development are two priorities of the Egyptian government.

Kamel referred to the recently signed MOU between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the Egyptian Association for IT Exports  as a clear example to put the ministries' vision into force.  The agreement aims at building up the potential of the Associationís member companies in the domain of producing, outsourcing and exporting IT services.
Kamel further added that Egyptís ICT sector is growing with a rate exceeding 20 percent annually, which contributes directly to the national economic growth.

The CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)Dr. Hazem Abdelazim said that the agency have adopted a new marketing approach that helps strengthen means of collaboration with other countries pioneering in the outsourcing field.

According to Abdelazim, the new marketing approach proved effective through the positive outcomes of his recent missions to the United States and Germany.

A report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the year 2008 alluded to the fact that Egypt has been able to take high positions amongst the top 20 countries worldwide attracting investments in the field of outsourcing.

Another report by A.T. Kearney has ranked Egypt as one of the most competitive in the outsourcing field in the year 2007. The Key to this growth, according to report, is the government's move to set an ambitious target for the country to reach $1.1bn of the global outsourcing market by 2010.

Egyptís ICT sector is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country and is at the forefront of Egypt's development. As an African country, Egypt has made gigantic steps in the IT/ITES sector and proved to be the land where foreign investors will not fear to tread.

Egypt has been ranked as the first choice for investors in the North Africa Region and the second choice in the continent after South Africa in The World Investment Prospects Survey 2007-2009 issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
