Egypt Partakes in ICANN68 Virtual Policy Forum

    Date published: 21 June 2020

Egypt, represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), participated in ICANN68 Virtual Policy Forum, organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), on June 22-25.

This is the second ICANN meeting to be held virtually due to the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and the following restricted health measures adopted worldwide.

In light of the Forum, ICANN Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) convened under the chairmanship of the Chief Expert of Internet Policies at NTRA Manal Ismail, elected GAC Chairperson in 2017.

NTRA participated in ICANN68 online proceedings through the various meetings of ICANN constituencies and committees. This included GAC meetings, via the official representation of the Government of Egypt in ICANN GAC; meetings of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC), which represents the global community for individual Internet users participating in ICANN policy development, via its DNS Entrepreneurship Center; meetings of the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (USAG) and meetings of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC), via its IDN ccTLD (dotMasr) Registry.

The event schedule featured plenary sessions exploring the Domain Name System (DNS) abuse and malicious registrations, DNS abuse mitigation, DNS and Internet of Things (IoT), data protection policies and how to advance policy work during COVID-19.

ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation, with a community of participants from all over the world. Its mission is to help ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet.
