    Date published: 18 October 2016
Egyptian 5D Company has been shortlisted in the top 30 finalists to compete in the first ever competition for startups on the first day of GITEX Technology Week, taking place on October 16-20 at Dubai World Trade Center, UAE.

Specialized in virtual reality and simulated reality technologies, 5D is participating in GITEX under the Egyptian pavilion, sponsored by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).

A total of 400 global companies joined the competition; 5D shortlisting makes it eligible to win the ‘Best GITEX StartUp’, ‘Best Arab Led StartUp’, ‘Best Women Led StartUp’ and ‘Best Youth StartUp’. Joining the competition is in line with 5D vision to employ the latest digital and virtual technologies in business development, and keep up with the latest trends in local and regional markets.

Egypt’s participation at GITEX is in line with the ongoing government initiatives to increase innovation and leadership within its business community. These initiatives include the ones of the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) to encourage innovation and protection of intellectual property rights in the local ICT sector, which embraces the business incubators program designed specifically for the development of startups in Egypt. The program supports startups that have been able to achieve success at the regional and global levels such as Crowd Analyzer, Vimdy, Instabug and Wuzzuf.

This is in addition to companies winners of international awards such as EVENTUS and Raye7 which recently won the second best emerging worldwide application award at the Barcelona International Exhibition of Telecommunications (GSMA 2016).

Other initiatives are research cooperation between various companies and the Information Technology Academia Collaboration (ITAC) forged to boost innovation and scientific research in 10 sectors involved in information and software application technologies. This is in addition to the innovation cluster which is a network of multinational organizations, educational institutions, business incubators, training centers and non-government organizations established to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in Egypt.

For the past years, GITEX has been offering a unique opportunity for Egypt and Egyptian Companies to showcase their newest solutions and technologies and penetrate one of the world’s fastest growing regions. It has enabled new companies to participate in identified trends as well as giving visitors the opportunity to engage, learn and implement the advances of the industry.

Launched in 1981, GITEX is the ICT business gateway to the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia Region. GITEX continually identifies the hottest global IT trends and incubates these into the event either as new sectors or conference programs. It is the foremost technology exposition in the Middle East, drawing over 146,000 ICT professionals from more than 144 countries. With Over 4200 ICT companies from 130 countries and 80% of the top ICT brands in the world, GITEX Dubai is considered one of the top three ICT events worldwide.
