Egypt Partakes in 40th Executive Bureau of Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers Meeting

    Date published: 26 September 2016

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), will participate in the 40th session of the Executive Bureau of Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers Meeting and the 20th session of Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers Meeting, held on September 27-28, in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Among the key topics to be discussed at the meetings are the outcomes of the Arab Permanent Postal Commission meetings and the outcomes of the Arab League Permanent Committee for ICT.

The meetings will also tackle the discussion of the Arab Internet governance initiative, “Connect Arab Internet Networks” project, and the joint Arab cooperation with other regional organizations and groups in the ICT field. This is in addition to the over-the-top content (OTT) applications, cybersecurity issues combating online terrorism, the decimal participatory development for media and communication (2009-2018), and the current status of the generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs).

Egypt has been a permanent member at the Executive Bureau for Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers since its establishment; it has been elected as president and vice president of the Executive Bureau for a number of times. Egypt’s election was in line with the key role the ICT sector plays in the country, being one of the most developed and influential sectors and positively impacting the national economy. This is in addition to the efforts exerted by Egypt in the Arab area in this field and its constant interest to activate cooperation at all levels.

Presided by Saudi Arabia in its current formation, the Executive Bureau comprises ICT ministers of Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Mauritania and Yemen. The council aims to coordinate and unify efforts of Arab countries to establish and develop ICT services, and devise an Arabic strategy to develop the sector. This is in addition to securing interests of the Arab countries in ICT international organizations.
