    Sustainable Development in Remote Areas Conference 'Technologically Empowered Communities – Nub@'

    The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) will hold the Sustainable Development in Remote Areas Conference "Technologically Empowered  Communities – Nub@” on March 31, at the Conference Center, Smart Village, in cooperation with Egypt Information and Communication Technology Trust Fund (ICT-TF), the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

    The ICT Minister Yasser ElKady, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Egypt Anita Nirody, the Governor of Aswan Major General Magdy Hegazy, and Founder and Honorary Chairman of Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation- Aswan Heart Center Sir Magdi Habib Yacoub will participate in the conference. This is in addition to other dignitaries and senior officials of governmental and non-governmental entities and organizations.

    The Conference is within the framework of the state's strategy of sustainable development “Egypt 2030”, and in line with activating MCIT strategy on social safety networks and maintenance of the rights and interests of social low-income classes, via contributing to improving labor market efficiency, reducing gaps between governorates in employment rates and improving access to health and education services.

    The Sustainable Development Conference aims to identify IT tools that contribute to the areas of development and its sustainability (health - education - women empowerment – entrepreneurship - enabling civil society), exchange expertise to explore best practices in the field of sustainable development using ICTs and discuss key challenges and means to address them via community participation. It also aims to review the results of the integrated development projects in marginalized and remote areas as an integrated development model, hold new partnerships to make use of achievements and ensure continuity and sustainability after the end of the project.

    The conference program will start with an opening session and a presentation of the “Integrated ICT solutions for Development – Nuba “Project. A tripartite protocol will be signed with the Industrial Modernization Center (IMC) and e-Finance Company. This is in addition to signing a bilateral protocol with Kasr Al Ainy School of Medicine- Cairo University. Dialogue sessions will be held during the conference, tackling key topics including contemporary trends to empower women and young people economically and socially in remote areas, the integration of health and technology to support the health system in remote areas and the role of civil society organizations in promoting technological education services in remote areas.

    The Integrated ICT for Development in SIWA (2009-2010) project was implemented to establish an integrated development model in remote communities, which achieved— through its pivots (health - education - literacy - small and medium enterprises )—tangible results. ICT-TF received AGFUND Award, which contributed to replicate this model in the Nuba Project (2013 – 2015), in partnership with AGFUND program to enable the Nubian society through the the said pivots of development.
