    Egypt Hosts FOSS Arab Network Launch, ITU MIS Report Press Conference

    Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), will host the launch of Free Open Source Software (FOSS) Arab Network on November 30, at MCIT premises, in Smart Village. In the same time, MCIT will host a press conference to launch the 2015 edition of Measuring the Information Society Report (MIS), organized by the Arab Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

    As for the launch of FOSS Arab Network, the National Director of Egypt ICT Trust Fund Hoda Dahroug and the Regional Director of the ITU Arab Regional Office Ibrahim Al-Haddad will deliver opening speeches; MCIT International Relations Division Director Nermine El Saadany will deliver the closing speech.

    The event will tackle a number of topics including the ITU FOSS initiative as well as aligning with Egypts FOSS Strategy. The event will present FOSS Arab network project and will have presentations by the Arab partner countries including Egypt, Beirut, Tunis, Oman and Palestine. At the end of the event, a panel discussion will be held.

    As for the launch of the ITU MIS Report, the United Nations Information Centre in Cairo (UNIC) will deliver the opening remarks, followed by a speech for the Regional Director of the ITU Arab Regional Office Ibrahim Al-Haddad. MCIT Information Center Director Nagwa El-Shenawi will also give a short brief about MIS Report and review cooperation with ITU on ICT statistics/indicators, as Egypt is the hosting country and represented in the report.

    The Report, which has been published annually since 2009, features key ICT data and benchmarking tools to measure the information society, including the ICT Development Index (IDI).

    The IDI 2015 captures the level of ICT developments in 167 economies worldwide and compares progress made since 2010. In addition, the Report will show the results of the ICT Price Basket (IPB) and present and analyze broadband price data for around 180 economies. The report also includes a chapter looking into recent developments, opportunities and challenges of the Internet of Things (IoT).

    The Global launch of 2015 edition of the Measuring the Information Society Report (MIS) will be held on November 30, on the first day of the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS) 2015 in Hiroshima, Japan. Parallel launch events will take place in Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Brasilia, Brussels and Cairo.
