Brazil Hosts IGF Tenth Meeting 2015

    Date published: 5 November 2015

The tenth annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is scheduled to take place in Joao Pessoa, Brazil on November 10 -13. It is a multi-stakeholder, democratic and transparent forum which facilitates discussions on public policy issues related to key elements of Internet governance.

IGF provides a platform for discussions among all stakeholders in the Internet governance ecosystem, including all entities accredited by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), as well as other institutions and individuals with proven expertise and experience in all matters related to internet governance.

The IGF 2015 meeting’s theme is “Evolution of Internet Governance: Empowering Sustainable Development”. This theme will be supported by eight sub-themes that will frame the discussions at the Jo?o Pessoa meeting. They are cybersecurity and trust, Internet economy, inclusiveness and diversity, openness, enhancing multi stakeholder cooperation, Internet and human rights, critical Internet resources and emerging issues.

The Tenth IGF also aims to enhance linkages among discussions, recommendations and policy options, coming from the various national and regional IGF sessions and the rest of the Internet ecosystem. Furthermore, relevant Internet governance organizations are encouraged to take forward key ideas raised during the tenth IGF.

The Internet Governance Forum, established by the World Summit on the Information Society in 2006, is the main forum that discusses relevant IG topics and allows the presence of stakeholders along with the governments, on an equal footing. In addition, the nature of the Internet formation requires that its management should be interactive among all stakeholders, not only within the borders of one state but extends to counterparts from other countries.
