    MCIT Runs AfIGF Main Session on WSIS Review

    The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) is participating in the fourth African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) where MCIT International Relations Division Director Nermine El-Saadany conducted the main session that took place on September 7.

    The session tackled issues related to the review of World Summit on Information Society(WSIS)  from the African dimension, the future of the international Internet Governance Forum(IGF) in light of the WSIS Review,  in addition to the review of the African Union Declaration on Internet Governance in Africa.

    The AU ICT Officer, the Economic and Development Officer for the Economic Commission for Africa and a representative to civil society in Africa participated as speakers in the session. A number of recommendations resulted from the meeting, most important of which are the continuity of IGF under the United Nations umbrella with all stakeholders and urging African governments to participate in  IGF as well as the private sector, civil society and the African civil society.

    This is addition to supporting young people and assisting them to participate, encouraging governments and all stakeholders in Africa to send their proposals and their requests related to the comprehensive review process to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

    AfIGF is organized  by the African Union Commission (AUC) in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on 6-8 September 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
