    MCIT Organizes AfIGF WSIS Workshop

    The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) participated, on September 6—with the African Union (AU)—in organizing a workshop under the theme “World Summit of Information Society in Ten Years” within the frame work of  the Fourth African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF 2015).

    MCIT International Relations Division Director Nermine El-Saadany acted as one of the spokespersons in these workshops, in which a number of speakers who have experience in this area participated.

    During the workshop,  El-Saadany reviewed the Summit’s history since its inception in 1998 including the works of  2003 and 2005 summits until reaching the contributions made to the comprehensive review of the Summit's outputs.

    She also reviewed the current situation, debates and preparations around the reviewing works scheduled to be held in December 2015 at the General Assembly of the United Nations.

    In a related context, she reviewed the position of the developing countries, especially the African ones, and the importance of their participation in the reviewing works in New York, as the future of ICT policies will be resolved through this comprehensive review of the Summit outputs, which was held at the level of kings and presidents.

    As a result of this workshop, a number of special recommendations relevant to all African ICT community with all its affiliations were prepared to be submitted to  the preparatory meetings of the General Assembly.

    The fourth AfIGF is organized  by the African Union Commission (AUC), in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), on September 6-8 at the AUC New Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

    Egypt was honored to establish, organize and embrace the first AfIGF meeting in October 2012.
