    ICTs for Social Responsibility

    Realizing the significance of technology role in facilitating the daily life of citizens and valuing the principle of social justice, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) seeks to disseminate ICT tools and make them available to all segments of the society nationwide, serving poor and marginalized areas and people with special needs. MCIT developed a new approach for cooperation with the private sector, the government and civil society organizations to unify vision and objectives of the ICT projects for social responsibility.

    ICT for Social Responsibility
    Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) bring prosperity and revolutionize life in many aspects. MCIT is taking part in many societal activities, such as combating poverty, improving health services, reducing pollution, creating job opportunities and solving housing and transportation problems, thereby playing a direct role in enhancing community well-being. These activities and projects are conducted in close cooperation with the private sector.

    1- Technological Development of Community Schools

    The project aims to empower 800 community schools accredited by the Ministry of Education by providing the schools with ICT equipment, Internet networks and software that help develop and facilitate the education process. In addition, facilitators are trained on the use of ICT for better education.

    Partners: The Ministry of Education, Cisco Systems and Misr El Kheir Foundation.

    2- Support Technological Development of Inclusive Community Centers at Different Governorates

    The project aims at developing community centers technologically to serve the inhabitants of slums, poor and rural areas. Centers are provided with the required ICT infrastructure, equipment, internet connectivity and programs. The centers also run different training, educational, awareness, health and illiteracy programs for children, youth and people with disabilities.

    Partners: Telecom Egypt, Etisalat, Vodafone, Cisco Systems, IBM, Alcatel Lucent, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ebtessama Foundation, Nefham Organization, Tatweer, Misr El Kheir Foundation.

    3- Technological Development of Juvenile

    Detention Center
    The project aims to technologically empower, train and rehabilitate the youth of this organization to acquire skills that qualify them for the labor market, and to integrate them into the society as productive citizens who can use their energy positively and effectively to serve their community.

    Partners: Ministry of Social Solidarity, Cisco Systems, Vodafone Egypt, Telecom Egypt.

    4- Technological Development of Orphanages

    The project aims at developing 20 orphanages technologically as a first phase through the preparation of computer labs, providing training on computer applications and data entry, as well as teaching English language and improving the abilities of children in science skills and general knowledge using information technology.

    5- Telemedicine Project

    The project aims to provide better health services for the marginalized, poor and remote areas, and for people with disabilities through connecting the primary healthcare units in these areas with university hospitals and central hospitals. This is implemented through the use of video conference and specialized ICT system that allows diagnosis through specialized physicians.
