Cooperation with Development Partners


Successful cooperation with development partners in Egypt has proved to be extremely effective in expanding the use of ICT, and spreading Internet access.

Cooperation with the USAID
In 2000, MCIT signed an agreement with USAID for the funding of three projects up to the end of 2007.

ICT Project
The ICT Project is providing technical assistance to MCIT, NTRA, ITIDA and the Egyptian Postal Authority in an effort to increase and improve ICT awareness and utilization. The project has four basic tracks: improving the legal and regulatory environment; increasing e-government and e-business activities; expanding the use of ICT; and awarding further grants to development ICT in Egypt.

ICT Entrepreneurship Project (EIEP)
EIEP is aimed at promoting the competitiveness of the Egyptian ICT sector, specifically through activities of Egyptian entrepreneurs. Phase I of the project was completed in January 2006, and consisted of a detailed assessment of the ICT market. Phase II of the project began in February 2006 to form the Business Development Center (I-BDC) and the Trainer of Trainers component.

ICT4Tourism
MCIT and USAID are working closely to develop an ICT and Tourism Connectivity Plan for extending affordable, and reliable Internet access to all major tourist destinations in Egypt.


Cooperation with CIDA
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is working in partnership with MCIT, through the funding and cost-sharing of training programs, to prepare a highly competent human resource cadre capable of developing the Egyptian and African ICT sector.

Training Program for ICT Experts in Africa – Second Session Jan-Feb 2006
Organized by MCIT and implemented by the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI), the program trained 18 African ICT professionals from nine countries.


Cooperation with KOICA
MCIT’s cooperation with the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is based on sharing experiences and best practices, supporting the development of human resources and socio-economic infrastructure, and developing the ICT sector.

Joint Activities
-   Experience-sharing in and funding of the Software Development Center in cooperation with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)
-   Funding of the Distance Learning Program in cooperation with the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI)
-   Financing the training of 12 MCIT staff in the fields of CDMA, IT development policy and IT management

 
Cooperation with JICA
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is working with MCIT through the funding of joint projects and financing of various IT training programs.

Joint Activities
-   JICA is studying an MCIT proposal to fund a trilateral training program for African and Iraqi cadres at the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI)
-   Financing the training of MCIT staff in the fields of IT development policy and IT management in Japan
