Cooperation with Regional Organizations


On a regional level MCIT works to exchange expertise, whenever possible with Arab, African and European countries, promoting projects, and acting as a driver of change. Creating regional partnerships and facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships have been seen as instrumental in furthering Egypt’s participation on a regional level.

Cooperation with the League of Arab States
Egypt has pioneered many models for development that have been adopted throughout the MENA region, particularly in bringing Arabic content to the Internet. The foundations for this are open communication through regional cooperation and continued knowledge sharing. Egypt now heads the League of Arab States Executive Bureau for ICT ministers.

The Arab League Permanent Committee for Communications and Information Technology Convened in December 2006. In addition, meetings of The League of Arab States Executive Bureau and the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers on 9-10 January 2007 with Egypt being the Head of the Executive Bureau.

Arab Working Group for Arab ICT Strategy Formulation
The working group met to decide on the proper mechanisms to get funding for the Arab regional projects proposed by the Arab States and which were included in the Arab Regional Action Plan developed for the Second Phase of the WSIS.


Cooperation with the African Union
African cooperation in the ICT sector stems from Egypt's commitment to promote regional cooperation across the African continent, share knowledge and promote the use of ICT in achieving development goals.

First African Ministerial Conference on ICT
April 2006

Hosted in Egypt in April 2006, under the chairmanship of Egypt, the event brought together 17 Ministers, 36 country delegations and representatives of over 20 regional and international organizations, as well observers from civil society organizations and the private sector. The agenda was to principally agree on the implementation mechanisms of the African Action Plan on the Knowledge Economy (ARAPKE). Egypt will also chair the conference in 2007.

MoU with Ministry of Science and Technology, Mozambique
March 2006

The Minister of Science and Technology from Mozambique visited MCIT to sign an MoU which establishes a plan of bilateral cooperation relating to e-health, e-learning, training, and technology park development.

African Leadership ICT Training Program
A new program formulated in 2006. The program aims to provide management expertise to potential leaders in African countries to become change agents in the ICT sector. The training will be delivered in a selective variety of qualified training centers, institutions around Africa’s five regions.

Capacity Building of African ICT Professionals
MCIT, in coordination with the National Telecommunications Institute and the Information Technology Institute, organized specific training for experts from African countries working in the field of ICT

African Telecommunications Union (ATU):
MCIT
is an active member of the ATU and member of its Administrative Council since 1999.

The Arab Organization of ICT
MCIT participated in the meetings of the Management Committee of the Arab Organization of ICT in February 2007 where Egypt is a member of the Organization's Management Committee and the Vice Chairman of the Organization's Council.
